Institutional
activities - Support for research
In November 2001, the heads of the four participating institutions signed a new agreement to establish a Promoting Consortium for the Genomic Medicine Institute, created to promote and carry out executive and detailed studies to establish and develop the National Genomic Medicine Institute (INMEGEN) as well as to promote horizontal connections with any national and international institutions willing and able to cooperate in the elaboration of research programs, the formation of human resources and the dissemination of information regarding genomic medicine, through the articulation of projects. INMEGEN’s Promoting Consortium has elaborated a far-reaching development plan, which covers several aspects: organization, structure and academic development of research and instruction; programming and budgeting of resources; its association with other research institutes in the country and abroad; dissemination of information to specialized groups and to society in general; the architectural project of its installations in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and in Tlalpan. Furthermore, it has supported the legislative organ for the establishment the Institute. It has a web page on the Internet, www.inmegen.org.mx that contains information and references regarding the elucidation of the human genome. Moreover,
FUNSALUD is a member of the National Commission for the Human Genome,
a consulting organ pertaining to the Health Ministry, whose job it is
to learn, accommodate and disseminate the policies and activities of agencies,
organizations and educational and health institutions, both public and
private, regarding research, technological development, education, healthcare
and, in general, all knowledge about the human genome and its application.
