Nutrition

The Nestlé Fund for the research, education, improvement and propagation of human nutrition in Mexico, originally sponsored by the Nestlé company in Switzerland and now totally sponsored by Nestlé-México, is undertaking the following activities:

1) It is strengthening nutrition education throughout the country’s faculties and schools of medicine, in coordination with the Mexican Association of Faculties and Schools of Medicine (AMFEM), by including the subject in the career curricula of the schools, bringing its contents up to date, establishing nutrition departments within institutions and implementing training courses for students.

2) In 1995, the year it was published, The book Medical Nutriology (two reprints: 1995, 2000) won the CANIEM Publisher’s Prize in the Superior Technical and Professional Education category, awarded by the National Chamber of the Mexican Publishing Industry.

 

3) The biannual organization of the Nestlé Nutrition Conference, an international forum for experts, which has been held in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002, regarding relevant health issues in Mexico, and whose results are published in Nutrition Reviews.

4) The elaboration of a study on the nutritional state and epidemiological profiles (in the metropolitan area of Merida, and rural zones in the States of Yucatan and Aguascalientes), with a specific focus on social marketing, in collaboration with the Peninsular Chapter of FUNSALUD and the endorsement of Nestlé-México.

5) The celebration of seminars on human nutriology for students and doctors, with the collaboration of AMFEM, the Mexican Academy of Pediatrics and the following societies: Gastroenterological, Infectology and Clinical Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Reproductive Health. The results are being published in specialized magazines (Acta Pediátrica de México, Medicina Interna de México, Ginecología y Obstetricia de México, Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiológicas) as well as by the Foundation itself.

6) The endowment of annual scholarships for a residency program in medical nutriology, in collaboration with the Salvador Zubirán National Nutrition Institute (INNSZ) and the academic accreditation of UNAM’s Faculty of Medicine.
