Health Technology

FUNSALUD’s contribution to health technology has always been an integral part of its mission. Throughout its institutional life, it has participated in a number of activities directly related to aspects of health technology, such as the celebration, in 1991, of a seminar on the rational use of technology, and a consultancy it carried out for the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) regarding the evaluation of technologies.

In 2002, the Board of Trustees requested an exploratory study to analyze the feasibility of FUNSALUD’s participation in the field. This resulted in the document Promotion, Evaluation and Development of Health Technology. Towards a Virtual and Integral Outlook.

As a first step, we are studying the possibility of other actors participating in this endeavor (health sector, science and technology sector, productive sector) in order to determine the reach of such an evaluation and negotiation unit for health technology, which would enable the Foundation to develop activities on health technology, from a view point of strategic planning, the creation of an interactive and integral space, wherein the challenges could be determined and the general lines of operation could be established. To this end, the organization of a debate and the formulation of a collaborative strategy are currently under way. A proposal has also been submitted regarding the celebration of a symposium at the National Academy of Medicine.
