Institutional development

FUNSALUD’s patrimony has grown to over 30 million pesos. The donations collected throughout the Foundation’s existence have helped to attract other donations, build the installations that house the Foundation’s headquarters, sustain its operation and provide sustainability to the institution.

Historically, the contributions from Associates represent 29.9% of the resources, benefits from external debt exchanges (swaps) represent 42.9%, contributions from the Federal Government represent 6.1% and contributions from friends of the institution represent the rest. In the year 2000, a Trusteeship of Ex-Presidents was established which represents 17.4% of the patrimonial contributions. The Trusteeship’s objective is to collect a considerable amount of capital in order to sustain the Foundation for a medium to long range period.

According to the following figures, the invested financial resources have multiplied since the Foundation’s establishment:

- For each peso donated by the Associates, another 2.1 pesos were collected for the institutional patrimony.

- For each peso of the patrimony applied to certain projects of direct interest to the Foundation, 6.6 pesos were earned.

- For each peso contributed by the Associates, 9.9 pesos were administered in funds donated to FUNSALUD by national and international contributors, to support a variety of health programs that were carried out by third parties.

Therefore, the Mexican Health Foundation has been an effective vehicle for the mobilization of resources to benefit the health of the Mexican population.

Since 1990, a procedure for institutional planning has been established which organizes the work of FUNSALUD’s collegiate bodies regarding their decision-making process. The process generates biennial programs that specify objectives, goals and future activities and are the basis on which the financial needs are determined. Semester evaluations are carried which result in the publication of a biennial report whose contents are then divulged to society.

The Foundation relies on a Documentation Center and a computer and telecommunications infrastructure (Internet) to support all its activities. The Center has amassed almost four thousand documents and offers diverse consultancy services to the Foundation’s staff, students and researchers and to the public in general. Its internet address is: www.funsalud.org.mx.
