Strategic dimension

With regards to FUNSALUD’s activities, strategic orientation has always been allowed to prevail, since:

st. A multiplying effect has been achieved by making sure that FUNSALUD’s activities benefit the many as opposed to satisfying individual needs. The essential products of the Foundation are: data banks, information, proposals, work methods, research outcomes, publications in scientific books and magazines, conferences and academic activities.

nd. It has sought to increase its effectiveness through an ideal combination of complementary capabilities. Thus, it provides equipment designed ex-profeso for the needs of the operational staff in charge of coordinating the projects, which is made up of advisors from different academic and health institutions. This allows it to combine its entrepreneurial committment, academic capacity, the intelligent use of resources and its relationship with the health research and education institutions in Mexico.

rd. It has been selective as to the programs and projects it promotes, in order to respond to priority health problems, and make sure that institutional participation includes aspects not covered by other organizations, thereby guaranteeing the fulfillment of its objectives.

th. It has used its resources wisely and efficiently, by applying four basic strategies: 1) it has stayed within the budget defined by the governing bodies for the operation of the Executive Presidency; 2) carried out projects that have adequate financial support for their execution, from the institutions that endorse them; 3) promoted projects that implicate economic benefits that help sustain the operation of the Foundation; 4) it has chosen the most advantageous options, within the money market, to increase both the patrimonial resources and the funds it manages.

th. It has established explicit definitions and kept a strict watch on how it collaborates with health institutions, which has allowed it to maintain close contact with health authorities, without sacrificing its autonomy of decision, independence of opinion or the freedom to carry out its activities. FUNSALUD’s programs are centered on national health priorities.

th. Its institutional activities have expanded to distinct corners of the country through the work of some of the Foundation’s Regional and State Chapters.

th. It has established strategic alliances with academic institutions, the private sector, the public sector, international organisms, civil society organizations and foundations abroad.

th. It has managed to project its institutional activities into the international ambit through consultancy services in Latin America which have helped it transfer its own experience into other contexts and has enabled it to learn more about the prevailing health problems that transcend geographical borders.
